Fax a Signed Document with AI

Need to fax a signed document to a landlord, an insurer, a school or an agency that still wants a fax? Do it from Claude or ChatGPT with the Fax.Plus MCP connector: say who it goes to, attach the file, confirm, and get a confirmation report afterwards.

Before you start

• Use an active Fax.Plus Basic plan or higher, a Fax.Plus fax number and an existing authorized Fax.Plus MCP connection.
• Use a compatible client with remote MCP support. These steps use Claude web; interface labels may differ in ChatGPT and other clients.
• MCP is unavailable for accounts with Advanced Security Controls, including HIPAA and PHIPA configurations.
• Have the document ready as a file and the recipient's fax number at hand. Sign the document first, in any tool you like; this flow only sends it.

How to fax a signed document

1. Open a new chat. Use your connected assistant with Fax.Plus available.
2. Say what you want. Enter “I want to send a fax.” The assistant starts a send (pipeline_start) and looks up your numbers and contacts (list-numbers, list-contacts).
3. Give the recipient. Tell the assistant the fax number or pick a saved contact.
4. Attach the document. The assistant asks you to attach the file (request-file-from-user). The file is uploaded directly to Fax.Plus rather than passing through the model.
5. Check and confirm. Review the recipient number, the sending line and the page count, then approve the send (send-fax-uploaded).
6. Check delivery. Ask “Did my fax go through?” and get the confirmation report.

Before you confirm

Sending delivers a real fax, and a fax cannot be taken back once it is sent. Check the recipient number digit by digit, confirm the sending line and the page count, and keep the Fax.Plus send tool on Needs approval so nothing goes out without your OK.

Understand the result

After you confirm, the fax is submitted and the assistant reports its status. Submitted is not delivered: a fax in the outbox shows as preparing or sending and moves to your sent faxes when the send finishes. A delivered fax shows the status success; a failed fax shows the failure with a short reason.

The fax confirmation report is a one-page PDF with the date and time, sender, recipient, page count and result. It records that the fax was transmitted to that number, which is a useful record to keep with your own papers. It does not show that a particular person read it.

If the send does not start, the assistant tells you; nothing was sent unless it reports a submission. Check the connection and the account, then try again.
