  • Find a failed fax and see the reason from Claude or ChatGPT.
  • Resend it without attaching the document again.
  • Keep the resend on Needs approval and check delivery afterwards.
  • Works with Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants that support remote MCP with OAuth sign-in.

A fax failed? Find it, see why, and resend it from Claude or ChatGPT with the Fax.Plus MCP connector, without opening the app or attaching the document again.

Before you start

  • Use an active Fax.Plus Basic plan or higher and an existing authorized Fax.Plus MCP connection.
  • Use a compatible client with remote MCP support. These steps use Claude web; interface labels may differ in ChatGPT and other clients.
  • MCP is unavailable for accounts with Advanced Security Controls, including HIPAA and PHIPA configurations.
  • Confirm that the connection uses the account that sent the fax.

For connection help, see the Fax.Plus MCP setup hub and the client connection guide.

How to resend a failed fax

  1. Open a new chat. Use your connected assistant with Fax.Plus available.
  2. Find the failed fax. Enter “Show my sent faxes that failed.” The assistant looks through your sent faxes (list-faxes).
  3. See why it failed. Ask “Why did the newest one fail?” The record shows the failure with a short reason (get-fax).
  4. Ask to resend it. Enter “Resend that fax.” The assistant uses the existing fax as the source (resend-fax: resend using an existing fax as source).
  5. Check and confirm. Review the recipient and the sending line, then approve.
  6. Check delivery. Ask “Did the resent fax go through?” and get the confirmation report.

Before you confirm

Resending delivers a new, real fax, and a fax cannot be taken back once it is sent. Read the failure reason first: if the number was wrong or unreachable, the same number can fail again. Check the recipient and the sending line, and keep the Fax.Plus resend tool on Needs approval so nothing goes out without your OK.

Example prompts

Copy a prompt into your connected assistant.

Check the result

Did the resent fax go through? Get the fax confirmation report and tell me whether it shows success.

Understand the result

After you confirm, the new fax is submitted and the assistant reports its status. Submitted is not delivered: it shows as preparing or sending in the outbox, and moves to your sent faxes when the send finishes. A delivered fax shows the status success. If it fails again, the record shows the reason again.

A repeated failure usually points at the number. In that case get the correct number and send the document as a new fax.

If the resend does not start, the assistant tells you; nothing was sent unless it reports a submission. Check the connection and the account, then try again.

Keep recipient numbers out of shared screenshots.

FAQs

Why did my fax fail?

A failed fax shows the failure with a short reason on its record, for example a number that is not allocated. Ask your assistant to show the reason before you resend. If the reason is a wrong or unreachable number, resending to the same number can fail again.

Will the assistant resend a fax without asking me?

Resending delivers a new fax, so your client asks for approval first. Keep the Fax.Plus resend tool set to Needs approval and check the recipient and the sending line before you confirm.

Why do I see no Fax.Plus tools after signing in?

The authorization may not have finished. Return to your assistant, complete the Fax.Plus sign-in and refresh the connection. In Claude, reopen the connector under Settings → Connectors. In ChatGPT, select Refresh. Tools set to Blocked in the permissions also cannot be used. If the problem continues, contact Alohi Support with the client name and the error. Do not include passwords or tokens.

Why does Claude not use Fax.Plus in my conversation?

Connecting the connector and using it in a chat are separate steps. Open the conversation, select + → Connectors and make sure FaxPlus is enabled. Also check the connector's tool permissions: tools set to Blocked cannot run, and tools set to Needs approval wait for your confirmation. If FaxPlus is missing from the list, go back to Settings → Connectors and confirm that it shows as connected.

Why does ChatGPT not use Fax.Plus in my conversation?

Select FaxPlus from the available apps or tools in the chat, or type @ and choose it. If it is not listed, open the app, sign in again and select Refresh. Available options depend on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings.

Can I connect a HIPAA or PHIPA Fax.Plus account?

No. Fax.Plus MCP is unavailable for accounts with Advanced Security Controls enabled, including HIPAA and PHIPA configurations. Keep the security controls required by your organization in place and contact Alohi to discuss a suitable integration.

Do I need Fax.Plus Enterprise to use MCP?

No. OAuth connections are available on paid Fax.Plus plans starting with Basic. Enterprise is required for Personal Access Tokens. Your AI assistant has its own access requirements. See plan availability.
