  • Create, assign, rename and delete fax contact groups from Claude or ChatGPT.
  • Listing groups is read-only; changes ask for your approval.
  • Group contacts by project, client or deal.
  • Works with Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants that support remote MCP with OAuth sign-in.

Sort your fax contacts into groups from Claude or ChatGPT with the Fax.Plus MCP connector: list your groups, create one, assign contacts to it, rename it or delete it, in plain words.

Before you start

  • Use an active Fax.Plus Basic plan or higher and an existing authorized Fax.Plus MCP connection.
  • Use a compatible client with remote MCP support. These steps use Claude web; interface labels may differ in ChatGPT and other clients.
  • MCP is unavailable for accounts with Advanced Security Controls, including HIPAA and PHIPA configurations.
  • Have your contacts saved first. See managing fax contacts.

For connection help, see the Fax.Plus MCP setup hub and the client connection guide.

How to organize contacts into groups

  1. Open a new chat. Use your connected assistant with Fax.Plus available.
  2. See your groups. Enter “Show my contact groups.” The tool catalog calls this list-contact-groups (list contact groups). This is read-only.
  3. Create a group. Give the group a name. The assistant shows what it will create and asks for your OK (create-contact-group).
  4. Assign contacts. Name the contacts and the group. The assistant shows the change and asks for your OK (set-contact-groups: assign contacts to groups).
  5. Rename a group. Give the old and the new name (update-contact-group).
  6. Delete a group. Name the group. The assistant confirms which one before it deletes (delete-contact-group, marked destructive in the tool catalog).

Listing groups changes nothing. Creating, assigning, renaming and deleting do.

Before you confirm

These are write actions on your real contact groups. Check the group and the contacts the assistant names, and for a deletion check that it names the right group, because a deleted group may not come back. Keep the Fax.Plus contact tools on Needs approval so nothing changes without your OK.

Example prompts

Copy a prompt into your connected assistant and replace the text in brackets.

See my groups

Show my Fax.Plus contact groups and which contacts are in each. Leave out fax numbers and email addresses.

Copy prompt

Create a group

Create a contact group named [group name]. Show me what you will create and wait for my OK.

Copy prompt

Add contacts to a group

Add [contact name] and [contact name] to the group [group name]. Show me the change first and wait for my OK.

Copy prompt

Rename a group

Rename the group [old name] to [new name]. Show me the change first and wait for my OK.

Copy prompt

Understand the result

A group lookup returns your groups and the contacts assigned to each. If the list is empty, no groups match the request. After you create a group or assign contacts, ask the assistant to show the group again to confirm what was saved.

If a tool is unavailable or reports a failure, the action did not run; check the connection and the account before trying again.

Keep contact details out of shared screenshots and summaries.

FAQs

What is a contact group for?

A group keeps related contacts together, for example the clients of one project or all lenders on a deal, so you can find and manage them as a set instead of one by one.

Will the assistant delete a contact group without asking me?

Creating, changing, assigning and deleting groups are write actions, so your client asks for approval first. Deleting is destructive. Keep the Fax.Plus contact tools set to Needs approval and check which group is named before you confirm.

Why do I see no Fax.Plus tools after signing in?

The authorization may not have finished. Return to your assistant, complete the Fax.Plus sign-in and refresh the connection. In Claude, reopen the connector under Settings → Connectors. In ChatGPT, select Refresh. Tools set to Blocked in the permissions also cannot be used. If the problem continues, contact Alohi Support with the client name and the error. Do not include passwords or tokens.

Why does Claude not use Fax.Plus in my conversation?

Connecting the connector and using it in a chat are separate steps. Open the conversation, select + → Connectors and make sure FaxPlus is enabled. Also check the connector's tool permissions: tools set to Blocked cannot run, and tools set to Needs approval wait for your confirmation. If FaxPlus is missing from the list, go back to Settings → Connectors and confirm that it shows as connected.

Why does ChatGPT not use Fax.Plus in my conversation?

Select FaxPlus from the available apps or tools in the chat, or type @ and choose it. If it is not listed, open the app, sign in again and select Refresh. Available options depend on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings.

Can I connect a HIPAA or PHIPA Fax.Plus account?

No. Fax.Plus MCP is unavailable for accounts with Advanced Security Controls enabled, including HIPAA and PHIPA configurations. Keep the security controls required by your organization in place and contact Alohi to discuss a suitable integration.

Do I need Fax.Plus Enterprise to use MCP?

No. OAuth connections are available on paid Fax.Plus plans starting with Basic. Enterprise is required for Personal Access Tokens. Your AI assistant has its own access requirements. See plan availability.
