Send a fax from your Mac with Fax.Plus in your web browser. Upload your document, enter the recipient’s fax number, and check the sending status. No fax machine, modem, or phone line is needed. Receiving faxes requires a paid plan with a fax number.
These steps work in your browser on a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, or Mac mini. Keep your document and the recipient’s fax number ready before you start.
You can also fax documents from your Mac’s applications. Choose the method that fits your file and account: export a PDF, use a supported add-on, send by email, or print to fax. A compatible multifunction printer uses its own fax setup.

If your multifunction printer supports faxing, you can send a document from your Mac through that printer. Set up its fax connection according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The available options depend on the printer and driver. This workflow is separate from Fax.Plus online faxing.
If the printer does not appear under Faxes, check its manual and installed driver.
Export your Pages, Numbers, or Keynote document as a PDF, then upload it to Fax.Plus in your browser. Check the PDF before sending to make sure its pages appear as intended.
Use the Fax.Plus add-on to send the document or spreadsheet you have open in Google Docs or Google Sheets. Install the add-on first, then sign in to your Fax.Plus account.
Use the Fax.Plus Office add-in where it is supported by your Microsoft application. If it is unavailable on your Mac, save the document as a PDF and upload it in the Fax.Plus web app.
Email to Fax is available on paid Fax.Plus plans. Enable it in your account, then send from the email address associated with that account. You can use Apple Mail or an email service such as Gmail or Outlook.
Fax.Plus Print to Fax is available on paid plans and requires its own installation. It sends a document through Fax.Plus from an application’s Print menu, without a physical fax printer.
Prefer a desktop application? Download the Fax.Plus Mac app and sign in to your account to send documents and view your fax history. Receiving faxes requires a paid plan with a fax number. Check the current download requirements for your Mac.
Open Send Fax and enter the recipient’s fax number with the country and area codes. Check that the number belongs to the intended recipient.
Attach the files you want to fax and arrange them in order. Add a cover sheet if your recipient needs one, then review the document.
Select Send, then check the fax status in your account after processing. Save the confirmation report when you need a record of the transmission.

No. You can use Fax.Plus in your Mac’s web browser without installing an app. This works for sending documents from a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, or Mac mini. The downloadable desktop app and Print to Fax are separate options with their own installation requirements.
macOS does not provide an online fax service. Its printer-based fax option works with a compatible fax-capable multifunction printer and that printer’s setup. To send over the internet without fax hardware, use an online fax service such as Fax.Plus. A free account does not include every sending method.
Yes. Fax.Plus sends faxes over the internet, so your Mac does not need a phone line, modem, or physical fax machine. You need an internet connection, a Fax.Plus account, a supported document, and the recipient’s fax number. A physical printer’s fax function uses a different setup.
Yes. After mobile-number verification, the Free plan includes a one-time allowance of 10 pages for sending. It does not renew each month and does not include receiving faxes. Additional sending requires purchased credit or a paid plan. Page usage can vary by destination, so check the destination rate before sending.
Yes. You can use the Free plan’s one-time allowance, then buy pay-as-you-go credit without a subscription if you need more. The minimum top-up is $10, and unused purchased credit does not expire. The Free plan’s published rate is $0.20 per page, with charges varying by destination.
Fax.Plus supports PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, TXT, RTF, JPG, PNG, and TIFF files. You can attach up to 10 files to a fax. Export Pages, Numbers, or Keynote files as PDF first. Before sending, check that the finished file contains every page and that any completed form fields are visible.
HIPAA-compliant faxing requires the Enterprise plan, a signed Business Associate Agreement, and Advanced Security Controls enabled. Using a Mac, an encrypted file, or a Free account does not by itself meet those requirements. Confirm your organization’s requirements before using Fax.Plus to send protected health information.
Open Faxes > Sent and check the status. A Success status confirms that the fax was transmitted to the receiving fax machine. You can download the Fax Confirmation Report from the fax’s More menu. Successful transmission does not confirm that a person has read the document or processed your request.
Check the recipient’s fax number, including the country and area codes, and review the failure status in your account. Confirm that the destination is a working fax line and that you have enough pages or credit. If the line is busy or unavailable, try again later or contact the recipient.
