Before you fax from Google Drive

Prepare your files

Find the document you want to fax in Google Drive. Have the recipient's fax number ready, including its country and area code, before starting the process.

Install the add-on

Install the Fax.Plus add-on from Google Workspace Marketplace. Use the same Google account that holds your Drive file so Fax.Plus is available when you need it.

Connect an account

Sign in to your Fax.Plus account, or create one if needed. Review the permissions before authorizing access to the document you want to fax from Drive.

Check restrictions

For a work or school account, installation may be restricted. If the add-on is blocked, ask your administrator to review access before attempting to send documents.

How to send a fax from Google Drive

Once the add-on is installed, follow these steps to send your Google Drive document:

Open Google Drive with the account you used to install the add-on. Find the document you want to fax.

Right-click the file. Choose Open with, then select Fax.Plus.

In the To field, enter the recipient's fax number with the country and area code, such as +16692001010. Check the number and document before sending.

Select Send Fax. Check the transmission result in your email notifications, if enabled, or in Faxes > Sent in Fax.Plus.

Why is Fax.Plus missing from Open with in Google Drive?

Check that the Fax.Plus add-on is installed for the Google account you are using in Drive. If installation or access is blocked on a work or school account, ask your administrator to review the restriction. Once the add-on is available, right-click your file and choose Open with > Fax.Plus.

Can I fax a Google Drive file without installing the add-on?

Yes, if you have permission to download the file. Download it from Google Drive, then upload it with Add File in the Fax.Plus web app's Send Fax section. For a Google Docs, Sheets or Slides file, open it and choose File > Download > PDF. Enter the recipient's fax number and send. A file owner or administrator may restrict downloads.

How do I know a fax sent from Google Drive arrived?

Open Faxes > Sent in Fax.Plus and check the result. Success means the recipient's fax machine acknowledged receipt. You can obtain a confirmation report from the fax's More menu by choosing Fax Confirmation Report. It records transmission details; it does not confirm that a person read the document.

How are files faxed from Google Drive stored?

All stored files at rest, including faxed documents, are encrypted using 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). Each user benefits from unique encryption keys. Review the add-on permissions before connecting Google Drive, and follow your organization's rules for sensitive documents.
