  • A fax gateway is the infrastructure that converts a fax between an internet connection and the traditional telephone network.
  • It lets a cloud fax service reach, or be reached by, an ordinary analog fax machine on the other end.
  • Fax.Plus performs this conversion within its own infrastructure, so no separate gateway device is needed on the customer's side.
  • The gateway sits between a customer's internet fax and the phone network it ultimately reaches.

What Is a Fax Gateway?

A fax gateway is the piece of infrastructure that bridges a fax moving over the internet with the traditional telephone network a fax machine or line still relies on, converting the transmission at whichever end needs it so a message can move between an internet-connected fax service and an ordinary analog line. On the analog side, that line's own fax machine would normally print its own paper record confirming the transmission, regardless of which gateway carried it there.

How Fax.Plus Handles the Gateway Function

Fax.Plus performs that gateway function itself as part of being a cloud fax service provider: when a fax goes out, Fax.Plus's own infrastructure dials the recipient's number over the phone network, with no separate gateway device to install or configure on the customer's side. The same connection carries a fax that needs to stay protected once it's stored, and a fax a recipient later sends on through forwarding it to a new destination.

A Common Case: Reaching an Analog Line

A small supplier still runs an old analog fax machine at its loading dock, while the company sending it purchase orders switched to an internet fax service years ago. The fax gateway function connecting the two is what lets that purchase order still arrive on paper at the dock, with neither side needing to install new hardware to make it work.

常见问题解答

Does Fax.Plus require a separate fax gateway device?

No. Fax.Plus's own infrastructure performs that gateway function internally, so nothing needs to be installed on the customer's side.

What's the difference between a fax gateway and a fax service provider?

A fax service provider is the company handling the whole fax service. A fax gateway is just the infrastructure piece within it that bridges internet fax traffic with the traditional phone network.
